When it comes to textured hair in fashion, few hairstylists are making an impact quite like Aminata Kamara. Known for her exceptional work backstage at the world’s biggest fashion weeks, Kamara has become a leading voice for inclusivity, ensuring Black models receive the same level of expertise and care as every other model on the runway.

Her career began with a passion for hair and beauty, but it was her determination to address a long-standing gap in the fashion industry that set her apart. After training as a hairstylist, Kamara carved out a niche specialising in Afro and textured hair, eventually working backstage alongside some of fashion’s most respected session hairstylists. Her impressive portfolio now includes luxury houses such as Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, and Burberry, where she has created editorial and runway looks that celebrate the versatility of textured hair.

For decades, Black models have spoken about arriving backstage to find hairstylists who lacked the skills or confidence to work with textured hair. In many cases, this resulted in damaged hair, rushed styling, or models being made to feel like an afterthought.
