Skincare can get unnecessarily complicated. Twelve-step routines, seventeen different serums and ingredients you can barely pronounce? No thank you. If you want to streamline your routine, these are five ingredients actually worth knowing about.
1. Retinol
The skincare classic. Retinol can help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture and pigmentation while encouraging skin renewal. Start slowly—your skin does not need to be terrorised.
2. Vitamin C
Perfect for dull, tired-looking skin. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can help brighten the complexion and protect against environmental damage.
3. Niacinamide
The multitasker. It can help support the skin barrier, regulate excess oil and improve the appearance of pores and uneven tone.
4. Hyaluronic Acid
If your skin is feeling dry or dehydrated, this is your friend. It attracts and holds water in the skin, helping it look plumper and more hydrated.
5. Salicylic Acid
Especially useful if you struggle with clogged pores, blackheads or oily skin. This beta-hydroxy acid works inside pores to help remove excess oil and dead skin cells.
The key? You don’t need all five at once. Choose ingredients based on what your skin actually needs and introduce new products gradually.
