If you haven’t heard of Yoshita 1967 yet, now is the time to pay attention.
Founded by Kenyan designer Anil Padia, the Nairobi-and-Paris-based label launched officially in 2024, after beginning as a collaboration with Kenyan artisan Catherine Wanjalo. The name pays tribute to Padia’s late aunt, Yoshita, born in 1967, while “yoshita” also means woman in Hindi.
The brand is rooted in Padia’s Kenyan-Indian heritage, family history and the craft traditions he grew up around. Crochet is at the heart of the label, alongside intricate embroidery, mirrors and silver-plated bells inspired by Gujarati traditions and family memory.
What makes Yoshita special is that the craftsmanship isn’t an afterthought—it is the fashion. Pieces are handmade by women artisans in Kenya, with the brand deliberately investing in their skills and livelihoods.
In September 2026, Yoshita 1967 won the LVMH Savoir-Faire Prize, receiving €200,000 and a year of mentorship.
