Once beloved by starlets such-as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn the English fashion brand Jaegar as gone into administration…again!
Jaeger first started creating wool suits, and by the beginning of the 1st World War, after cutting its associations with Germany it became a British brand. In the 1920s it had switched to fashion and opened it’s first flagship store on Regent Street which attracted a market of people who wanted British-made garments at reasonable prices.
As of recent the brand has struggled to adapt to the changing fashion climate, and the ongoing global pandemic has also impacted sales.
Back in April 2017, it was announced that the company had entered administration. By May 2017, it was purchased by Edinburgh Woollen Mill from Better Capital(buying both the brand and debt) however not the main company.
On 11 January 2021, it was announced that Marks & Spencer had acquired the Jaeger fashion brand for £5 million (which fell into administration in November 2020) but not Jaeger’s 63 shops and 13 concessions.
