One to Know| Photographer Juergen Teller

If fashion photography has a rule-breaker-in-chief, it’s Juergen Teller. Born in Germany, Teller first trained as a photographer in Munich before moving to London in the late 1980s.

It was there surrounded by the city’s gritty creative scene that he developed the signature style that would later shake up fashion imagery.

Instead of glossy perfection, Teller delivered something far more interesting: realness. Flash photography, unfiltered skin, awkward poses, and moments that felt almost accidental quickly became his trademark.

His work has shaped the visual identity of major fashion houses including Marc Jacobs, Celine, Vivienne Westwood, and Saint Laurent, while his editorials for Vogue and i-D helped redefine what fashion photography could look like.

From celebrities photographed in mundane settings to deliberately imperfect campaign shots, Teller’s work challenges the idea that fashion needs polish to be powerful. Raw, provocative, and endlessly influential.
