Blumarine has announced David Koma as their new creative director following Walter Chiapponi’s departure after just one season. Koma, a Georgian designer known for his bold, sculptural red carpet creations, will debut his first Blumarine collection for pre-fall 2025 in May/June next year.
Since founding his London-based fashion house in 2009, Koma has built a reputation for his distinctive feminine aesthetic. Marco Marchi, director of Exelite (Blumarine’s parent company), believes Koma will perfectly reinterpret Blumarine’s codes, bringing his modern vision to the brand.
Blumarine has recently experienced several creative shifts. Under Nicola Brognano (2019-2023), the label embraced a Y2K aesthetic, gaining popularity with pieces like the butterfly camisole. Chiapponi’s brief tenure introduced a more classic style but faced criticism for a lack of cohesion. Koma plans to blend Blumarine’s sensual and glamorous heritage with his own innovative touch, ushering in a fresh era for the brand.
