One to know| Set designer, Shona Heath

If fashion had a resident surrealist, it would be Shona Heath the visionary set designer and art director responsible for some of the most enchanting, otherworldly imagery of the last two decades. Her work doesn’t just decorate a space; it creates a universe. And if you’ve ever looked at a fashion campaign and thought, “This feels like a dream,” there’s a good chance Heath was behind it.

Shona began her creative journey studying illustration at Central Saint Martins, where her instinct for storytelling quickly outgrew the page. She drifted naturally into set design building fantastical worlds where logic bends, scale distorts, and beauty becomes almost mythical. Her breakthrough came through long-time collaborator Tim Walker, whose whimsical photography found its perfect partner in Heath’s imagination. Together, they produced some of fashion’s most iconic editorial moments for Vogue, W, and beyond.

Think giant paper flowers, surreal-scale props, shadowy forests built indoors, and sets that feel both nostalgic and futuristic. Heath isn’t afraid to play and fashion loves her for it.

Her recent work includes designing for Gucci, Mulberry, and even the cinematic universe of Poor Things, where her visual language translated seamlessly to film.

Shona Heath doesn’t just style a scene she elevates it into art.
