My Unforgettable Trip to

Rio de Janeiro had been on my bucket list for years, and 2024 was finally the year I made it happen! From stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife to unforgettable cultural experiences, my 8-day adventure in Rio was nothing short of spectacular.

Carnival Magic & Exploring the City

We arrived just in time for the last night of Rio Carnival and hopped on motorbikes straight to the parade. The energy was unreal—music, colour, and pure vibrancy! Pro tip: get there early unless you want to stand the entire night. Carnaval runs until 3 AM, so be prepared for a long, exhilarating evening.

The next day, we explored the local markets (yes, we splurged at the Havaianas store). Dinner was fried oysters, salmon carpaccio, and garlic bread—simple but delicious!

Beach Days & Thrill-Seeking Adventures

We spent an entire day at Ipanema Beach, sipping cocktails and soaking up the sun. That night, we danced at Pedra do Sal, a must-visit for live music lovers. The following day, we went paragliding over Rio, then lounged at Copacabana Beach before dining at a sushi restaurant in Leblon (not my favourite, but my friend loved it).

One of the biggest highlights was a full-day excursion to Arraial do Cabo, known as the “Brazilian Caribbean.” A three-hour bus ride took us to the coast, where we boated through crystal-clear waters, swam near secluded islands, and explored breath-taking caves. However, the traditional Brazilian lunch was underwhelming—bland and lacking spice.

Iconic Landmarks & More Beach Days

We visited the Selarón Steps for a photo session, then headed to Christ the Redeemer, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. That evening, we tried a steakhouse in Leblon—again, a little disappointing in flavour.

For the best beach experience, I recommend Leme Beach—it’s cleaner, has stunning sunsets, and a cool event called Rasta Beach featuring Caribbean music (sadly, we missed it).

We ended the trip at Jardim Botânico and Parque Lage, relaxing at Café Plage. Bring bug spray, as the mosquitoes are relentless!

Final Thoughts on Rio

Rio is a breath-taking city with warm, friendly people and incredible fashion. The food scene, however, felt too Europeanized, lacking the bold flavours I expected. Surprisingly, even in a top wine-producing country, restaurants had limited wine selections.

Would I recommend Rio? Absolutely! Experience Carnaval, Leme Beach, and the vibrant local markets—but be mindful of certain areas. If you get the chance, go at least once in your life—Rio is pure magic!
