Fashion News| Donatella Versace Steps Down

The End of an Era

After nearly three decades at the helm, Donatella Versace is stepping down as Creative Director of Versace, marking a historic transition for the iconic fashion house. She will now take on the role of Chief Brand Ambassador, ensuring her continued influence on the label.

Donatella took charge in 1997 following the tragic murder of her brother, Gianni Versace. Despite initial doubts, she redefined the brand, keeping its signature boldness alive while modernizing its appeal. From her unforgettable collaborations with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez to her daring reinvention of the brand’s signature prints, Donatella ensured Versace remained a powerhouse in luxury fashion.

Speaking about her departure, Donatella expressed gratitude for her team and excitement for Versace’s future. Her successor, Dario Vitale formerly Miu Miu’s design director will take over from April 1, 2025, becoming the first non-family member to lead the brand’s creative vision.

This transition comes amid speculation about a potential Versace sale to Prada, making the future of the brand even more intriguing. With Vitale at the creative helm, the fashion world eagerly anticipates how he will shape Versace’s next chapter.
