Estée Lauder Companies has announced the appointment of Stéphane de La Faverie as its new CEO, effective January 2025.
De La Faverie, a seasoned executive with over 13 years at Estée Lauder, previously served as Executive Group President, where he managed prominent brands like Jo Malone, The Ordinary, and the flagship Estée Lauder brand. Known for his extensive background in prestige beauty, he brings a strategic vision and deep understanding of consumer needs, which will be crucial as Estée Lauder works to boost innovation and connect with global audiences more effectively.
De La Faverie’s appointment reflects the company’s commitment to revitalizing growth through ground-breaking products and immersive experiences. His leadership is expected to focus on sustainable practices, digital expansion, and maintaining Estée Lauder’s position in the luxury beauty market. With his track record of fostering brand development and market expansion, many industry insiders anticipate positive shifts aimed at rekindling consumer interest and enhancing brand loyalty.
However, this decision once again raises a familiar question about representation. Estée Lauder’s core consumers are predominantly women, yet female leadership remains scarce at the highest levels of the company. De La Faverie’s appointment highlights the ongoing trend of male-dominated leadership in the beauty industry, where female consumer insights are essential. Hopefully, the industry will recognize the value of diverse perspectives in leadership to truly reflect and respond to its customer base
