Runway| Prabal Gurung AW-24

Prabal Gurung’s runway at the start of the season was a bold fusion of East and West, showcasing the designer’s personal narrative through fashion.

The opening look, featuring a head-to-toe red ensemble, marked a departure from Gurung’s previous politically charged slogan tees. This time, it was a poignant blend of East-inspired sportswear and Western sari like draping. The collection paid homage to Gurung’s Nepalese heritage, notably in a stunning red shearling coat, a nod to his family’s dress traditions.

The recurring theme of wide bands weaved through the lineup, appearing as fur trims, dress hems, and even unraveling in the finale trio, symbolizing fragmented memories. The runway felt like a visual autobiography for Gurung, with friends like Sarita Choudhury and Lisa Joy gracing the stage. Softness prevailed in loose silhouettes, mirroring the amorphous nature of dreams and memories. Gurung, acknowledging the world’s current challenges, expressed the need for beauty rooted in reality, offering a collection that intertwines strength and femininity amid life’s complexities.
