Matthew Williams is leaving Givenchy and rumour has it, it’s because they don’t like his designs

Now, unless you’ve been living under a rock for a while, you would have heard of a Mr Matthew Williams. Who is best friends with Heron Preston, Virgil Abloh, they all came up around the same time, They’re from the same social clique. The skateboard, fashion, music guys, all of them in their collective. So Matthew Williams has been the creative director for Givenchy for the past three years. He first was appointed as creative director of the French powerhouse June 2020 and he’s last day will be the 1st of January 2024.
It is said that his last collection will be the men’s and women’s pre fall, which will debut later on this month.
Now rumour has it that LVMH were not happy with the creative direction of the brand and it was not showcasing what Givenchy is classically known for. And maybe Williams just didn’t understand the French aesthetic.
One of my favourite collections that he designed had to be the Spring Summer 2024 collection. I loved it, It was filled with oversized blazers, neutral tones, sheer dresses and very low neckline, absolutely gorgeous. He mixed the masculine with the feminine, the oversized blazers with the nice V-neck top. I loved to mixture of the leather and the sheer dresses, It’s like hard but soft. I love it when the two worlds collide I felt like he really did a very good job with that last collection.

Now, where does Matthew Williams go from here?
Apparently, he’s going to be focusing on his brand 1017 ALYX9SM. Maybe with his brand he’ll be able to showcase his true talent, his real voice and design the things that he wants to design, without having the pressures of conforming. There seems to be a huge shake up in the fashion world right now with the departure of Williams. Trussardi lost their creative director, Davide Renne, who died suddenly 10 days after taking over. There’s been other shakeups with Bluemarine, Chloe and Alexander McQueen, as we heard Sarah Burton announced her departure after 26 years of working at the British legacy brand. Todd’s has also announced its appointment of a new created director.
What are your views on Matthew Williams leaving Givenchy? Where do you think he’s going to go? Do you think he’ll be appointed as a new creative director for another big powerhouse, or do you think he’s probably going to focus on his own fashion line?
